A Personal Favourite

It's Friday but Sunday's Comin'

Pastor Lockridge was leading through the American Civil Rights Movement where there was much struggle between the races.  I bet he had seen a few things.  During times of pressure keeping hope can be difficult.  In this hope filled poem there is a surprise just around the corner.  There is a birthing.  There is a seed dying so that a new world can spring up.  Click the link below to hear this pastor's wonderful, deep, rhythmic voice as he declared the power of the Resurrection of the Christ.  Right now around the world it seems to be Friday in more ways than one (even though I'm posting it on Saturday) but you can be sure that Sunday's comin'.

spoken by Pastor S.M. Lockridge     (Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, San Diego from 1953-1993)

It’s Friday
Jesus is praying
Peter’s a sleeping
Judas is betraying
But Sunday’s comin’
It’s Friday
Pilate’s struggling
The council is conspiring
The crowd is vilifying
They don’t even know
That Sunday’s comin’
It’s Friday
The disciples are running
Like sheep without a shepherd
Mary’s crying
Peter is denying
But they don’t know
That Sunday’s a comin’
It’s Friday
The Romans beat my Jesus
They robe him in scarlet
They crown him with thorns
But they don’t know
That Sunday’s comin’
It’s Friday
See Jesus walking to Calvary
His blood dripping
His body stumbling
And his spirit’s burdened
But you see, it’s only Friday
Sunday’s comin’
It’s Friday
The world’s winning
People are sinning
And evil’s grinning
It’s Friday
The soldiers nail my Savior’s hands
To the cross
They nail my Savior’s feet
To the cross
And then they raise him up
Next to criminals
It’s Friday
But let me tell you something
Sunday’s comin’
It’s Friday
The disciples are questioning
What has happened to their King
And the Pharisees are celebrating
That their scheming
Has been achieved
But they don’t know
It’s only Friday
Sunday’s comin’
It’s Friday
He’s hanging on the cross
Feeling forsaken by his Father
Left alone and dying
Can nobody save him?
Ooooh
It’s Friday
But Sunday’s comin’
It’s Friday
The earth trembles
The sky grows dark
My King yields his spirit
It’s Friday
Hope is lost
Death has won
Sin has conquered
and Satan’s just a laughin’
It’s Friday
Jesus is buried
A soldier stands guard
And a rock is rolled into place
But it’s Friday
It is only Friday
Sunday is a comin’!

Never Say Never! There is always hope.

Hello to All, I pray this finds you all safe and well.  The purpose of this blog is for us to stay connected to one another during the difficult time of the COVID-19 Pandemic. I will be writing some thoughts every day or two while we are waiting out the rise and fall of this horrible virus. Here and there we may have some visiting bloggers so keep checking back. This page will be linked to SCCF's Facebook page.  At the bottom of the blog you can give comments.  I pray this will be a blessing to you all.  So here goes... Hezekiah's Bold Prayer Reading:    Isaiah 38:1-8 Wow!  God changed direction from what He had previously decreed because of one man's prayer.  Two important distinctions are laid out here.  Hezekiah prayed and Hezekiah wept bitterly.  Prayer reveals his desire and weeping reveals how he is feeling.  And God heard his prayer and saw his tears which in turn causes Him to change His mind.  Fifteen years are added to Hezekiah's life.  I was prayi

Happy Spring?

Happy Spring! Is it really; happy I mean?  This certainly is a different kind of spring than I've ever seen before.  As the weather gets better we will be able to get outside even though social distancing is now the norm.  And this is the earliest spring in your lifetime. The last time spring came this early on the calendar was 1896.  The spring equinox also is one of the two times per year where almost most of the earth has equal amounts of day as night.  That in one sense puts us all on the same playing field. It seems to me that this is a very new time for all of us and we are all on the same playing field.  We all feel under the same threat, the same financial hit, the same social distance and the same waiting game. We have gotten past the initial fear.   What do we do now? Michele had a word for us this past Tuesday that feels very important to share... Joel 2: 1, 12,13 Blow the trumpet in Zion, sound the alarm on my holy hill.  Let all who live in the land tre

Supernatural Creativity

I love the prayer of Jesus in John 17.  Look at verse 4… John 17:4 (NIV84) 4 I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. Jesus life is a picture of the Christian life.  Christian means "like" or "originating from" Christ.  What does it look like to be on the on Earth in this moment and to glorify God by completing the work that God has for each one of us to accomplish? The amazing thing about this day is that God has given us the creative power to wisely choose new directions and keep on doing the work.  The creative Father, Son and Holy Spirit are working in and through us even in this unusual day of world shutdown.  It is a little crazy out there and the killer is silent but God has not moved out of His position of power and glory.  Nor has our Father taken back the authority, creativity, spiritual gifts, and faith that He has given us.  It’s Monday morning, time to get to work glorifying God in all that we do.
